How the picker scores every card
- TIP 01
Category by category
Each card's real rate is applied to each of your spends: 10% on Swiggy for one card, 0% on bills for another.
- TIP 02
Caps and exclusions
Rewards stop at the card's monthly or quarterly ceiling. Excluded spends earn nothing and don't count towards fee waivers.
- TIP 03
Fees, forex, perks
The annual fee (with GST) is subtracted unless your spends clear the waiver. Forex markup is charged on foreign spends. Lounges count only up to the visits you said you'd use.
- TIP 04
Rank and combine
Cards are ranked by net yearly value, and every pair is tested to see if splitting your spends across two cards earns meaningfully more.
Questions people ask
Q01How does the credit card picker choose the best card?+30
It applies each card's reward rate to every spend category you enter, cuts rewards at the card's monthly or quarterly caps, gives zero on excluded categories, then adds lounge visits you said you would use and milestone benefits, and subtracts the annual fee (unless your spends clear the waiver) and the forex markup, both with 18% GST. Cards are ranked by that net yearly value.
Q02Why does a card with a 5% headline rate rank lower than a 1.5% card?+30
Caps and exclusions. A 5% rate capped at ₹500 a month can never pay more than ₹6,000 a year, and many cards pay nothing on bills, rent, fuel or insurance. A flat-rate card with few exclusions can return more on a spread-out spending pattern.
Q03Is it worth paying an annual fee for a credit card?+30
Only when the extra rewards and benefits you will actually use exceed the fee. The picker already subtracts the fee, so a paid card only ranks above a lifetime-free one when it comes out ahead for your numbers.
Q04Which credit card can I get with no credit history?+30
FD-backed (secured) cards such as IDFC FIRST WOW and Kotak 811 #DreamDifferent are issued against a fixed deposit without income proof or a CIBIL score. Paying them in full and on time for 6–12 months builds the history needed for regular cards.
Q05Do you store my income or spending?+30
No. All calculations run in your browser and nothing you enter is sent to our servers. If you tap "Save to my dashboard", only the name and estimated value of your top card are kept in this browser so your dashboard can show it.
